The Castro Valley Soccer Club is proud to announce that U13G United competitive player, Rebekah Valdez was selected to attend a prestigious US National team training center on June 4, 2013 after she was identified for her superior performance at a PDP event in May. Rebekah attended the session that was lead by US Women’ National Development coach, April Kater as well as many other top coaches including US National U17 girls coach, Albertin Montoya.
Here is what Rebekah had to say after attending this very exciting training session:
"I was selected to represent Region 3/4 for the PDP playdate which took place May 12th in Morgan Hill. For the first game, we played against Region 2 and beat them 1-0. In the afternoon game against Region 8 we won 5-1. Towards the end of the second game I was asked to speak to a couple of the player evaluators for a few minutes. About one week later, my parents received an e-mail from the U.S. Soccer Federation inviting me to a U.S. Soccer Training Center that was going to take place in Danville on June 4th. I was really excited to have this opportunity.
At the training, there were a total of 24 players, most between the ages of 13-15. I was the only 12 year old at the session. There were between 10-12 U.S. National team coaches at the training. April Kater, the head U.S. Women’s Development Coach, ran the session. When we first started the training I was really nervous and intimidated. Everyone was older and bigger than me. Once we began to play I calmed down, but was still a little nervous. I had a lot of fun and overall, it was a great experience. I am happy that I had the opportunity to attend the training. I am also thankful for all of the support from Coach Andy, Coach Garry and Coach Ben. I plan to continue to work hard and improve my game and I hope to be invited back for another training session one day"
Congratulations to Rebekah on this fantastic achievement!
