Over the Labor Day weekend the Castro Valley United U17B team took the Championship at the Silicon Valley Cup over the 10 other teams entered in their division.
On Saturday morning they faced the De Anza Hawks who held off an aggressive attack by CV United to hold on to a 2-2 tie. In the afternoon game CV United faced the Fremont Strikers and won by a score of 3-2. On Sunday afternoon they played South San Jose International and won easily 3-0, controlling possession at least 75% of the match. That evening on the lighted turf field, CV United defeated the Delta Wolverines 1-0 to win their flight with a record of 3 wins and 1 tie game. On Monday CV United faced the Heritage Velocity in the final championship game. Brett Shaver (leading scorer) scored midway through the first half for a 1-0 lead. In the second half CV United were down to ten players on the field, buy they were able to play a tough defense and control the game to win the tournament 1-0. During Sunday and Monday's game play CV United did not give up a goal to the opposing teams.
