Castro Valley Green Machine continued a very good January by winning Nor Cal’s State Cup Bronze division, beating Santa Clara Sporting 3-0 in the final.
The tournament started back in September and the Green Machine had to beat Livermore, Manteca and Elk Grove on their way to the semi-final. In the semi-final they beat MP Strikers 3-0, which put them into the final that took place in Manteca on Sunday 18th January 2009.
The Green Machine completely dominated the final, but in the first half just could not finish off their chances. The breakthrough came midway through the second half when Camille Watson coolly finished inside the box. This gave the team the confidence that they needed and Jana Cabrales and Camille Watson added to the teams lead to make the final score 3-0.
This is the team’s second major trophy of this current season as they also won US Club Soccer’s National Cup back in June 2008.
The Green Machine also managed to win the Castro Valley winter shoot-out that took place on January 3rd and 4th 2009. They defeated Lamorinda in the final on penalty kicks.
Green Machine plays the qualifying round of CYSA’s State Cup next weekend in Morgan Hill. Good luck to the team.
